Iron Sky: The Coming Race

Before I start I am somewhat saddened by the low ratings of (I'm guessing here) a younger crowd who can not appreciate the fun of a campy B movie. This movie isn't a blockbuster like The Avengers and it was never supposed to be but it IS an amazingly fun tongue in cheek romp of a lot of sci-fi and cultural tropes. Mild spoilers follow .... This movie makes superb fun of some cultural icons like the Indiana Jones movies, Putin, Sarah Palin and several cultural archetypes. It's tongue in cheek all the way - and imho - it works. So it turns out that major world leaders past and present were really lizard-people after all - and they are now living in the center of the Earth which, of course, actually is hollow. The old moon-nazi base is crumbling and the only way to save the last of humanity is to get to the Earth's core and retrieve, what else, The Holy Grail. Hey why the hell not? The chase scene with our heroes being pursued by alien-Hitler, alien-Margaret Thatcher, and alien- Pope (among others) driving frigging Triceratops's drawn chariots is worth the price of admission alone. The movie is a lot of damn fun - period. It knows what it is and it does it beautifully. I say all the above as a true sci-fi fan (yeah, I said "sci-fi mofos) who remembers the day when not every movie had to be a multi-billion dollar production and Rodger Corman ruled the Earth.

Even Iron Sky-The Coming race is a sequel for the first Iron Sky movie, it is easy to watch as an independent story. Screen write is so crazy, that it surely is not a art movie. And it doesn't have to be one. It is an crazy comedy and it will make you laugh. Silly ideas of human history has told a new way and history of a mankind will bee re written. Finally we get some sense for the story of Adam and Eve. Story doesn't bow to any religion, old or new, but make them laughable as they originally should be. Christianity, Muslim and I-religious are told and expressed the way they needed. Totally crazy way. Story telling is very rapid, but because the silliness of the story one and half an hour is more than enough for this movie. Iron Sky-The Coming Race is silly movie, but what else can you expect of the story of Nazis in the moon. Acting is great and Udo Kier is great in double role of his. After all Iron Sky-The Coming race is very enjoyable movie despite of it's inadequacy. Movie sounds beautifully and CGI looks great. Despite all of it lacks it is great to see, that Finnish movie makers can make Hollywood quality spectacle. It surely is not the greatest movie you have ever seen, but very enjoyable crazy comedy science fiction flick. If you can enjoy the silly story with some clever jokes about religious and enjoy great soundtrack and beautiful CGI, this movie is made for you. Hopefully we will get a change to see the third movie of the trilogy near future. Meanwhile we can enjoy another Iron Sky movie, The Ark- Iron Sky Movie, which is in post production at the moment later this year.

Let me be honest, most films in the last few years where bad as they where either Dc or Marvel films or remakes and continuation of others. Most main stream movies I have stopped watching as I find them boring! Iron Sky one was something else and I enjoyed Iron Sky 2 just as much. Not as good but lovely trashy and making fun of everything from the last few years. We liked it a lot and will also buy the blu ray when it comes. Switch of your brain, stop seeing all this boring action and just sit back and have fun for 90 minutes that go by fast. Rather this than all this simple boring same old mainstream
