I think it would've been ether if Josh Cranston had actually been in the film more, instead of just being a reflection. I Think that if Neil had become Ace throughout the movie it would've been a lot better. For example, he wasn't just in the mirror. That way not only did others see him that way, cooler, he would see it too. And I think it would've been cool to see how the school day had went since he had transformed that day. Like what the classes would've been like and I would think that he would share some classes with his friend so they would've interacted earlier and I think that would've been a lot better way to go about it instead of it just being at the end of the day ace/Neil going up to his friend trying to prove it to him.
Tried it out based solely on the actors on the advertisement. But the first 5 minutes were unbearably bad. It may be just that it is for a much younger audience, but then that doesn't account for the crass nature and language.
There are so many similarities to the amazing and hilarious Superbad. From the type of crass dialogue to the situations to the motivations. The crazy adventure, meeting crazy people on the way. The story/characters going in separate directions before reconnecting. The wacky cop buddies. They even copied the title! This movie made me laugh a lot, especially Gilbert and Jimmy. And when it comes to comedies, laughs can usually override an otherwise bad movie. Unfortunately for this movie, every non-comedic part is horrendous. The story makes no sense. So many things that happen are so illogical. I can accept any premise, but the farther we get into the movie the more we realize the infinite number of flaws with the premise. Neil's plan is complete nonsense. Everything is awkward. Conflicts and resolutions are clunky. It basically fails at everything... except the comedy. I had a good time and finished it with a smile. Which is why I went with 5 stars rather than 2 stars. But if it fired on all cylinders like Superbad (characters and story), it could have been an awesome comedy. I miss those. (1 viewing, 3/11/2022)
Neil Tobbler (Jake Short) is crushing on Summer (Madison Davenport) but is afraid to talk to her and when he does he pulls a Stan talking to Wendy. His best and only friend Gilbert (Miles J. Harvey) -also dance partner, tells him about getting a 24 hour wish if he wishes at 11:11 at night (does it during Daylight Savings so I don't see how it worked, but it did). He physically changes into someone that is super cool and good looking to he can go to Summer's party. At this point (and well before) the film digresses into a poorly scripted and performed teen sex comedy. It has weird comedic situations that fall short. Some funny moments like when his parents look up at the ceiling. Predictable ending. Guide:F-word. Sex and brief blurred nudity.
Compared to some of the high budget films, I enjoyed this movie. Did a good job of releasing me from my day to day stress by bringing a lots of smiles. Overall the team has done a great job. If you love "Free Guy"... You will love this.
