I thoroughly enjoyed this one, and even though it follows the Hallmark predictability route there was plenty here to keep it interesting. I might watch it another time or two this season.
6/10 - I love some Danica McKellar, but unfortunately this one did little to distinguish itself
Danica McKellar's appeal is lost on me. She's a weak actress who plays the same generically birdlike organizer character over and over. She appears incapable of holding her end in flirty banter or romantic chemistry. IMHO, the hair bump @ the top of her head is the worst style among the HMC parade of dated, limp female hair. She looks a decade older than her co-star here. This is the 1st Danica McKellar film I've stuck with past the point it flunked the 15-minute test. Also, the 1st time I've seen Niall Matter give a half-hearted performance. He appears unconvinced and uncomfortable throughout; the dance scene was a real cringer. In short, the plot and dialogue were dull, the acting was lackluster, the Dolly peekaboo got old fast, the OCD/boring job aspect overshadowed a faint romance, and (despite the title) most of the film was clearly not shot in TN. If I could rate it 0 stars, I would have.
I've been very critical of the Hallmark movies this season but have to say I really enjoyed this one. I'm surprised by so many negative reviews. I loved the cast and Dolly Parton made it that much more special.
If you are like us and are big fans of Dollywood Smoky Mountain Christmas and the surrounding character of Pigeon Forge, you will find this movie disappointing. Other than a few scenes filmed at Dollywood, and the movie bearing the name, it really doesn't do this area of Tennessee it Dollywood justice. Hallmark movies are rather predictable and most are similar, but this is our least favorite new movie this year. I mean, come on, how can you have a movie about Dollywood and not even mention their famous cinnamon bread. It should be 2/10 for that egregious omission.
9 out of 10 for a Hallmark movie, 3 out of 10 for a regular movie. Few notes 1.) This is your typical Hallmark movie. Love story, career issues, and so on. It's not a documentary so it's not about Dollywood, it's a love story about visiting Dollywood to save the holidays Lack of Dollywood: 1.) Dollywood is a busy park with multiple festivals and not just Christmas. Dollywood setup their Christmas lights in portions of Dollywood very early. We are talking before summer! Some of the movie was shot in August. The rest of it was shot first of November. Dollywood can't have the entire park decked out in Christmas all season. In August, it's 100+ degrees here at Dollywood 2.) The movie isn't a documentary about Dollywood, it's about a "Hometown Christmas" where they visit Dollywood Don't come into it expecting a documentary about Dollywood. It's a Hallmark love story and that's it
Not a fan of Niall Matter. Danica always acts/plays the same type of character. There was a lack of genuine chemistry between the two of them. They never made the audience care for them or if they got together. The story was disappointing and not enough to hold the viewers' attention for 2 scenes nevermind 2 hours. This continues the weak 2019 Hallmark Christmas collection. An overall disappointing season.
The expected Hallmark Christmas film, saved by Dolly Parton and correct job of Niall Matter. Nothing new but a good show , nice details and good used pieces of a too familiar game. So, just nice.
Again you must remember these movies are mostly filmed well before Christmas so that's why they couldn't film all at once. I did pick up on Danica's sister's hair - most scenes her hair was brown and the next scene it was jet black which meant she probably had other projects in between filming this picture. I actually thought the main leads had great chemistry, I really like the male lead (hunk)!! I thought it was a really good movie although it would've been nice for Dolly to perform a song or two but it was great seeing her.... she still looks amazing. Well done to cast and crew!
