Really enjoyed this Pete Holmes special. Really the only reason I'm writing this review is because the only other reviewer on IMDb gave this 1 star along with 71 other liberal leaning comedians. I fist watched this on Jan 20 2017 while I was home sick from work during the inauguration of #45 and this uplifted me. Figured this special deserves a more fair review than a random one star click. Pete Holmes will make you laugh and just feel good, his tone is always funny even with darker humor. If you're a Pete Holmes fan then this is for you, if you're new to the party, check out 'Nice try, the Devil' first for a better toe dip into his humor. 9/10
Pete Holmes of the incredible Batman skits with CollegeHumour does an uplifting, silly and sometimes awkward comedy special as he tries to find the lighthearted humor in some fraught topics to varied reception and success. Still, while his special sometimes teeters into self-help zone, and at other times into easy potty humor, his essential message to find "joy" nuggets and not be a "hard laugh" (someone who won't laugh at jokes easily) does carry through with sincerity, even gravity, amidst the goofiness. His sometimes serious, sometimes carefree expressions make for an interesting study of someone grappling with "calibrating" his mind to focus in on the successes he's already doing rather than what he isn't doing, as he says. An overall wholesome comedy special with some shaky material some might judge the comedian for as he notes, but with underlying purpose, intent, and a good time.
