Yes we expect a sweet happy ending to a Hallmark Christmas movie, but Five Star Christmas offers much more than what we typically get. With extremely likeable leads, blending of more humor than usual, a second romance storyline, a good supporting case (for the most part), and an attractive home, the pieces combined to create something more enjoyable than most Hallmark fare, And the premise offers many opportunities to do some terrific sequels . My only disappointment was the story of the married sibling learning she is pregnant and concern that they could not travel. First off the acting from the two of them was poor, and why can't a couple travel with a child... especially during the first trimester and the baby's first year? But aside from that Five Star Christmas was delightful, fun, entertaining and clever. Do more like this!!!. .
Much better than usual for this kind of movie. Good production values, good acting and really festive. Must watch if you are a fan of Hallmark movies.
I was initially on the fence in the beginning of the movie but gave it a chance when Bethany Joy Lenz kept me in the game, basically carried everyone else for me, but it ended up being a great story. If you find yourself like me, stick with it! You won't regret it.
Other reviewers are calling this refreshing and funny. I Agree. I don't know if it's the writing, directing or both, but this season's Hallmark holiday movies have come up a few rungs. Kudos. I would also like to add, I have seen Paula Shaw ("Margo") in other Hallmark movies & she was always solid, but in this offering, she is allowed to truly shine.
Don't think I've ever given an 8-star review to a Hallmark movie. But there were no 20-something wedding planners, that ALONE was worth 6 stars. And who knew that Bethany Joy could sing? Wonderful voice!
I really enjoyed this one! Some genuine laugh-out-loud moments. Good acting. Heart-warming and endearing. Definitely a new fav on my Christmas watch-list.
Out of all the movies from Hallmark this is one of my top picks. The situation is actually funny, and it actually has aome unexpected parts. It's charming, and has the Christmas decor, vibe, great actors.
Hallmark set aside most of its normal script elements and ended up with a movie which was fun and had some good laughs. A few normal Hallmark elements were in here, but not so much that it got in the way of the story. The acting was great and all characters enjoyable and real. This one is worth rewatching.
I enjoyed the comedy in the movie. The two main characters are two of my favourite of the Hallmark movies and glad to see them in this movie together. At times I did feel the movie was a little "silly" but a nice change. The house and scenery were absolutely beautiful, these aspects helped the movie be more interesting. I really enjoyed the grandfather and grandmother roles they did a very good job.
I confess I've watched a lot of these Hallmark movies and I've come to understand that it's mostly about the performers and this ensemble cast is really top notch. The lead actress (Lenz) gives an outstanding joy-filled performance that really makes this worth watching. Not sure if they were ad-libbing but Lenz and the cast are really entertaining with the dialog. You sense they were really having a blast doing this and that fun really comes across to the audience. Unexpected pleasure!
