I gave it the One star because of Candice Bergen because, in spite of a bad script, she was still able to make me laugh. Even Diane Keaton wasn't her normal funny and quirky way, failed to make me laugh, except for her dress. That was perfect for her. Don Johnson was a little too old for Jane Fonda. The difference in age was glaring. Giancarlo Giannini flying that helo was frightening! Acting was off and just felt forced! Waste awful waste Waste awful waste Waste awful waste. I don't have anything else to add to add the required characters. Waste awful waste Waste awful waste Waste awful waste.
My Book Club was excited to see this as we had loved the first one. What a disappointment. The women looked ridiculous in some of their outfits and the language was terrible. The double entendres were predictable and unfunny. The saving grace in the whole film were the husbands/boyfriends! The scenery was beautiful but seriously, how many women of a certain age could afford to go to Italy as a girls' trip? Or to walk around? This whole sequel seemed to be thrown together to cash in on the first movie--which was hilarious and refreshing! Those ladies were fun and funny! This time around, they seemed to be tiresome and tired. I wouldn't waste your money!
The negative reviews boggle the mind. This movie was even more enjoyable than the first outing. What's not to like? A-list actors, all giving fine performances. Exotic locations. Cozy friendship. Unpredictable plot twists, including a surprise ending. Candidly, the only minor fault is a lot of unnecessary junior high sex humor and the nagging, self-depreciating ageism. The book club element was there but perhaps a bit too subtle for some. I'm looking forward the the third installment (so long as the negative reviews don't kill the project) where the remaining single character has her day at the altar. If you didn't like the movie, I'd be interested to hear your specific plot recommendations for how it could have been better.
I found the idea of the film brilliant. The only thing I missed was the husbands, the scenes with them were precious in the first film, I think they should continue with a trilogy, there is much more to tell! I would like to see the reaction of Diane's daughters and also their honeymoon and why not? Another trip all together this time even with the husbands, to make a group, would be a lot of fun. I also hope to see Sharon with the police chief and maybe start a serious relationship, she would deserve it! Filmmakers who read us please MAKE ANOTHER FILM! Films of this kind with this cast are no more!
