I binged watched this over the weekend and I enjoyed it. It's not a bad drama but unlike some of the reviewers here some gave it 10/10 some gave it 1/10 I would say its above average about 6 or 7/10. Considering the main character was a informer for the police you would expect when he would meet his police handler it would be in a secret place rather than an open area having tea together where anyone could see them. Also there would only be one police handler which would be secretive but in this case there was several.. It's small details like this which I felt let the drama down, but overall I would recommend it and I'm looking forward to series 2.
Started watching it yesterday night and lost so much that when I completed it noticed that it's 2:30Am in night and I forget to eat and other important things. Enjoyed so much, Every character performance is fabulous. Randeep k lia to words hi nhi hai. Now if I visualise Randeep, my mind is displaying him and Gurman character only. I would recommend every one to watch this series. You will not find story like this and that too matching with the history of Punjab. Thank you Randeep bhai for entertaining us. Please release the season 2 as soon as possible as wait nhi ho rha ab. Let's see ab Canada m kya kroge. . At last bhai ne CHALE PAD DIYE KTI annt h .
Looks like we went backwards from the 'Don' years. Now everyone meets their undercover agent openly, at restaurants and churches and they all know his identity and even discuss it openly. Everyone in the chain of command knows his name, yet the one dimensional 'bad' higher ups have no clue! The season starts strongly, with fantastic camera work, and screenplay. It dissolves into Ekta Kapooresque soap from the last scenes of episode 4, with can-tell-its-a-set locations and acting. Family drama ensues, and within 1.5 month of becoming a CAT, our protagonist becomes an insider the most powerful family in the state! Yes, over the years Bollywood has left me without logic, but come-on gimme a break, atleast in the web series world!! I have fast forwarded episode 5 coz it's a brain wash of scenes trying to repaint how the baddy CM has a sob backstory!! The Canadian daughter is transformed in 15 minutes starts loving ma again!! Hooray! 6th picks up a bit but family drama ensues. It's surprising how lazy the writing was, especially when you take such a complex subject of addiction, it's suppliers and beneficiaries. Everything falls into place for the protagonist, jumping through hoops effortlessly!! A wanna be CM can score a canadian visa for someone else without the candidate ever setting foot in a consulate. The rest of us must be crazy and living in another world! May logic and reason be goddamned! Still struggling to complete episode 7 and I thank my starts there is so much great material available that I don't miss this at all. Net/net lazy writing, illogical sequences kill this otherwise good ensemble of great actors. What a waste.
Must watch👍 the plot is awesome. The characters are very well played. Randeep hooda has done a marvelous job. The storyline is really good. The twists and turns are quite interesting and will keep you hooked up till the end. You want to see more after the end of every of episode. It was something new and interesting. It is definitely an excellent watch. Long time such a series has been made. Three cheers for the director, actors and his whole team. Specifically applauding the main characters of the show. Very Realistic and convincing acting. Eagerly waiting for the second season to come. Hope it comes soon.
It looks like a documentary film and it's difficult for you to be tied up with each episode and watch all the episodes. Please Don't trust any positive Rating Scenes are changing too fast and it's difficult to understand what is going on and the story line. I think the editing could had been much better. Most of the actors are new and you are reminded every minute that the scene is acting and not true (credit to director). Only reason I watched was coz of Randeep Hooda. However, his appearance could not help to make this series appealing. Currently the rating for this series is 9+. Which looks really unrealistic to me. Poor direction and editing has put this series down. I hope 2nd session is not made for this.
One word...Blockbuster! This series is going to build a following...This is the spy series of India and only one person could have done this and that is Randeep Hooda...his transformations have been phenomenal be it in Sarabjit or CAT. He lives his roles he looks more Punjabi than some Punjabis I have seen lol...his Punjabi is flawless and his style of walking, and speaking is just brilliant. I loved the other characters in the series too they also performed very well some known and some unknown faces but everyone's contribution was also good. Director also did a fantastic job. For me the winner is Randeep I don't remember seeing good acting recently from any of the actors in Bollywood recently.
I have watched a fair share of Punjabi movies aka Pollywood. But apparently they hardly ever grew up from the stupid comedies. Then come Cat. It's very well directed, scripted n with matured actors. Randeep Hooda has been so balanced that you can not ask for more. Dialects are natural and slangs do not look to be over filled like in case of Mirzapur. The best part was the dresses, cars and sets changing when story line was changing from 80s to 90s. They have even taken care to set up living rooms according to era. Then Punjabi music stage shows as part of the story clearly depict change in the Punjabi music of both eras. Only part missed has been the turban style which is "wattan waali pagg" that's been famous recently is being used in 90s but this difference only a Sikh or Punjabi cab notice. There are multiple stories running in parallel and coming to a logical end. There is no villain or hero but everyone is a character. All roles are well defined and do not seem to be cut short anywhere. Resulting in a crime thriller which ensures to keep viewers gripped. One thing which clearly shows that Netflix has tried to remain away from controversies by having fictional name cities like SialGarh and number plates using PP instead of PB.
After a long time, Netflix has come with a series which is close to the level of Sacred Games. Barring last two episodes which I couldn't fully digest (which failed to bring everything well together).. the series is brilliantly made. What's good? The screenplay is quite tightly written and keeps you hooked throughout. Acting overall is superb. Randeep Hooda especially does an amazing job and gives a fantastic performance. Casting has been great and the supporting actors also play their roles quite effectively. I really enjoyed some plot twists and they have me goosebumps. Some scenes are so gruesome and shot very well. Amazed with the cinematography. What could have been better? Ending was okay but I couldn't digest it properly. They over did certain things. Could have kept it simple as there was no need for shock value towards the end.
A reuctant spy being used as a pawn by people more powerful and ambitious than him is a concept that is not new to cinema. CAT, the new Netflix show, takes this age-old formula and yet, manages to make it fresh and gripping through an eight-episode arc. The show can be described as Netflix's first Punjabi original (it is almost bilingual with the dialogue shuffling between Punjabi and Hindi). And that is not the only thing novel about the series, which uses Randeep's talents fabulously. Randeep is in top form as Gurnaam, the man who enters the show as a reluctant family man and by the end, goes through a Walter White-like transformation into a hardened, scheming killing machine. But the real star of the show is veteran Punjabi actor Suvinder Vicky, who plays Gurnaam's handler, the scheming cop who only has his own interests at heart. His dynamic role gives the actor scope and he brings out a delicious performance, showcasing ambition, jealousy, and lust for power quite effortlessly. Former Miss India Hasleen Kaur's transformation into a de-glam lower middle-class cop deserves mention. It is bold of an actor coming from her background to opt for a role like this and then takes talent to pull it off like she does.
This is the best web series coming out of India after Sacred Games' first season. It's brilliant. Watched the first 2 episodes, and it grips you. Masterfully acted by Hooda and the rest of the cast. A rare gem. The script is tight, well researched and hits all the marks and there's no fat on the meat. It's lean and powerful. The direction is taut, focussed and strong. It touches various issues that are plaging the state of Punjab, and these are competently shown. I hope it remains this focussed for its entirety. It's been a while since a web series has held my interest. Sheer quality. Highly recommended.
