hi
I am far to be an admirer of Hallmark romances. But this film is just...different by usual expectations from genre. Sure, the same recipe, the tough moment of reveation, the so familiar end. And , in same measure, beautiful work of supporting actors. But... It is something who can be called fresh air. Result of performances of main actors, the mistake of Jade, the confusion about holyday house or , sure, about poitical ingredient, talk of Hughes and his father about future pans or energetic fix of things of mother of Hughes. Important remains the fact than the scenes , one by one, just work. And, not last, the seductive island has its precise spice role in this case. So, just ittle more than nice.
7.1 stars. This is a laid back story of a bunch of people living in the Caribbean, waiting to grow old and die while soaking up as much sun as possible. The male character has been living there for years, and is a somewhat mysterious American and the female lead is a fish out of water from NYC. There is this whole fiasco with her booking a vacation rental that turns out to be a scam. "Caribbean Summer" delivers a mix of very attractive people, all of which are minorities, no whites in this film. It's a nice change of pace, to be honest. The island ambience and music is very enjoyable and it feels like being there. As the story continues, some of the mystery comes to light and the plot thickens. This is a rare variation of the usual Hallmark formula with a little added intrigue and scandal, a hybrid of mystery and romance. The rest of the drama/mystery unfolds into a satisfying film. On a side note, when the leads are preparing Jambalaya where is the pork sausage, shrimp, or crawfish? Unlikely.
