For a film called "Without a Trace," it turns out that there is actually substantial evidence lying around in plain sight that indicates foul play inflicted on women in the small town of Immerstill. There was some breathtaking photography of a winter landscape in Austria. But the screenplay was convoluted in the details exposing the deepest secrets of a small town. There appeared to be a half-hearted theme of institutional patriarchy in which the women have been subjugated by the men for time immemorial. Girls go missing and the male folk of the town don't bat an eye; or else, they attribute the losses to loose morals of the women. As a consequence, the young cupcake maker Lisa has to do the work of the lax police to track down her missing sister Marie. The home stretch of the film was almost impossible to comprehend. Will Lisa be treated any better in the big city of Vienna? Only a film sequel will tell.
