source: True Fiction
This is the movie that Ethan and Joel would have made if they'd have grown up in South Korea rather than Minnesota. Unlike their master piece "Blood Simple" where no character in the movie knows what's going on and the audience knows everything, the characters in True Fiction all have a pretty good idea of what's happening but the viewer keeps getting surprised. The plot is convoluted but believable and the cinematography is excellent. Hopefully the director will get another property to work with soon.
It's kind of a revenge story that slowly unfolds, exposing more and more aspects and reaching back to certain events from the past, but the story isn't all that intriguing, there is not really any suspense and none of the characters are really interesting, likeable or relatable, so you end up not really caring about what's going on. Meh.

TRUE FICTION started out slow with lingering around with comedy and kept me intrigued at where it was gonna go and where it was gonna end up. But the movie does pick up it's pace and once it does it becomes entertaining and keeps you glued. The movie turns into a thriller once it reaches the midpoint and bombards us with back to back twists and with a final and ANOTHER sweet cherry on the top TWIST again. I loved everyone's acting in this. No character is actually likeable here and I don't think that every movie needs to have a good ENDING or LIKEABLE characters....so characters are unlikeable but Ji Hyun Woo steals the show here in this movie. Definitely an above average entertainer for me.
