This film is centred on Marek Pelka, an engineering lecturer, who is weary of his profession. He wishes to be a writer of hard-boiled fiction. While attending a get-together of would be writers he starts telling his son about the screen play he is writing. The film then shows us the story he is telling; each character in the story bearing a noticeable resemblance to those we've met before. Its protagonist is Mike a detective who we first see during a shootout before witnessing the events that led him there. I rather enjoyed this film even if I was a little confused at times. The way it is told is interesting and it has a great noir look and the way Marek's story is populated with familiar faces is rather fun. There isn't too much action; certainly less than the opening shootout might lead on to expect but that isn't a problem. The cast does a fine job giving the characters just the right feel; somewhat melancholic and slightly exaggerated as one might expect from classic film noir. Overall I'd not say this was a must see but it passes ninety minutes rather well if you enjoy film noir and are looking for something a bit different. These comments are based on watching the film in Polish with English subtitles.
