When ghostwriter and aspiring comedian Aubri Wilson (Paniz Zade) is placed in charge of the Christmas variety show, she worries she might not have what it takes to pull off this make-or-break moment in her career. With Christmas just weeks away, Aubri is in pursuit of the perfect headliner for the event. That is, until famous Hollywood comedian Mike Baxter (Jake Epstein) returns to the comedy club that launched his career. Mike rediscovers his stand-up roots, and Aubri shows the world her inner funny girl, and as their journeys collide, they fall hopelessly and hilariously in love, laughing all the way.

I love Jake Epstein so it really pains me to flame this movie. Bella was too much of a clueless boss. Mike's agent was a parody. Mike's dream part was to be a superhero that is a rooster? Aubri has a straight male best friend who is not in love with her? These are all parodies. None of them are subtly done. I have said many times that Christmas movies have a difficult relationship with reality. Don't expect everything to be reasonable and real. But this movie pushes that beyond what I can accept in that category, especially how everything turns out with the big show. Or Mike Baxter's choice. I don't think these were supposed to be parodies, but perhaps I'm wrong. There were some lines and some jokes that stood on their own as funny.
