The acting is good. The story is not all cohesive. But it does scare you and made you unconfortable and actually hooks you in. The scenary was also well excuted. Sarah Paulson actually delivers she plays well this part of the protective mother and the all goes wrong. All play not on the favor of the caracter the loss of child, being in isolated region, not hearing for her husband, habing yust enough to eat, living in a period where constant scrutiny is very important and moral values are high. All this can make you crazy and put the dust storm putting in risk you and you childrends. It was well thought story it need it a bit more cohesion and elaborare more twist. Yes, there is twist.
Absolutely amazing psychological movie that brings the Dust Bowl, and those who suffered from it most, to life! Warning: this is a slow-burn, not an action-packed, jump-scare laden horror. This very much dives into the minds and emotions of what people must have felt then, given certain sutuations. Paulson was absolutely fantastic! Everyone was, actually! No complaints about the acting! Costumes, great! Sets? Usually okay, but it was a little to obvious when they switched from genuine outdoors to an indoor-that-looks-like-outdoors sets. The story was phenomenal, but I wish it had informed us as to what happened to cause the giant hole in the wall of the house; it didn't look 'unfinished'; it looked like someone had been thrown through. I also wish we knew what happened to the third sister, how she died and why. Two stars off for those unanswered questions, bit otherwise a very solid movie! Edit: I don't understand the low ratings. I wasn't expecting much from this movie myself, but was pleasantly surprised! It kept me watching all the eay through, and that's saying something! But if deep insights int family drama and psychological issues aren't your thing, you aren't going to like it.
Sadly I wasn't able to make it past the 40 minute mark before I realized there wasn't going to be any horror in this movie and the whole premise for watching this movie was destroyed the moment any chance of the supernatural coming into play evaporated much like any depth to the story. Sarah is a great actress, I've seen plenty of her in AHS and I really hoped that if there was just a modicum, one iota of something interesting in this movie it would be worth the time (a few stars maybe) however by the 40 minute mark all hope had been lost. I skipped ahead numerous times only to be presented with the same scene I was just looking at. And again, and again. The whole reason I am rating this movie at all is so I never watch it again. It is the definitive complete-waste-of-your-time movie.
Oh my where do I start with this boring horror of the third kind? If you found sand storms boring to watch then this movie is not for you! I am not going to give any spoliers away as there isn't much to the story in general to spoil. Sarah Paulson I haven't seen much of her work as I don't watch American horror so I can only comment that she did perform well as an actress in this movie. The story is like the Richard Carpenters the Fog where the storm comes in bringing evil to the town. Dont get too excited because the Fog is a classic this movie is not. I was bored all the way through and couldn't careless about the characters at the end of the movie if they lived or died. One of the worst boring horror movies I have seen this year in 2024.
