The female lead was both annoying and the universe should revolve around her. Royal family problems will be better off by dropping a loud mouth opinionated food truck owner into the mix. The Duchess and motor vehicle brought a grin. The scenery is gorgeous and varied enough to not feel deja vu. Did I mention that female lead acted like a twit at the onset? It was like she was educated at an American public school which had absolutely no discipline. Oh wait, this is true. It is purely an wonky American sentiment says that stuffy stereotypical royalty should be more like irreverent American urban center types. Watch it while ordering something from a food truck.
The main characters acting is extremely bad. The writing of her character is extremely bad. Shows that people in the US still don't care about other peoples cultures or like they're unaware that there are other people in the world besides them. Like they've never met anyone outside of the US (or in this case, US or Columbia). Extremely cringe. I get that she's "being herself" based on the roll written for her, but the lines and the roll feels so disrespectful. This is why English people hate Americans. Other than that, the scenery is absolutely beautiful. I think this movie could have been a lot better.
They made the lead too much of an immature brat. It serves a purpose to fuel the plot, but it also makes her an annoying character -- especially early in the movie. If you can endure the lead's childish attitude then there is something interesting here. You can tell this wasn't a Hallmark movie even though it's existing in the same genre. This non-Hallmark status allows the movie to be slightly more realistic in certain aspects and a little less predictable overall. All in all, I think this is a decent movie to watch. I would be interested to see more non-Hallmark romances that aren't just unfunny romantic comedies.
A cute movie for the genre. The female lead was both annoying and appealing. By far the most engaging characters - and probably the best actors- are Ronan Rafferty and Marcus Lamb. The rest of the cast was fairly strong. Dearbhla Malloy did a nice job as the Duchess. The scenery is gorgeous and well-used - made me feel almost as if I'd been on a quick vacation to Ireland. Love that the plot kept moving and that it had an "all's well that ends well" finish. Would have liked to see a little more substance in the female lead's role. That got a little silly and childish at times. I realize that she's supposed to be carefree and unconventional but she shows a good bit of depth towards the end and that should have been developed earlier on. Overall, worth the watch.
