Three 20-something friends get some much-needed hang time when a cancelled wedding sees them spend a long weekend together on a beautiful vineyard... with all the wine intended for the wedding... the runaway bride's crazy uncle ... and a beautiful young woman bringing a little sexual healing to the jilted groom. Inspired by Ernest Hemingway's Fiesta; the Sun Also Rises, Hang Time is a wine-fuelled comedy for the new "lost generation": Millennials. Balancing "booze and bros" humour with candid character drama, this film is as real as it is ridiculous, proving once and for all that nothing heals a broken heart like good wine, good friends, and a damn good time.

Here's a long moment of young adult Australasian angst and insecurity overlay-ed with a generic north-Americanesque teenage-style-of-humor, and laced with a few poignant wee bff moments. Unfortunately, it is billed as a comedy: none of the characters (nor their lines) is remotely funny although the tall, built, handsome "Ants" character makes a good go of it as well as providing male eye candy in underwear... again... and again. Perhaps the script needed a plot and clever dialogue - just a suggestion. A weekend at a picturesque rural setting out of range of wifi service provides an unlikely but seemingly necessary premise for the millennials to verbally interact about verbal interaction. I somehow ended up feeling I had just been in the most stunning situation I could ever imagine... and nothing happened. Good effort from the young cast.
So rare to find a film that makes you genuinely laugh out loud and with fresh new characters we've not seen before. The fresh funniness and real heart in this movie should place it as a new millennial cult classic.
This fresh, fun and genuinely funny creative team have done something you rarely find in formulaic Hollywood films - produced a feature that is as laughout-loud hilarious as it is unpredictable and poignant. And they made it seem effortless. Hats off to writer/director Casey Zilbert for helming this touching heart-break- recovery friends-to-the-end feelgooder. And set at a winery in summer in New Zealand! Pour yourself a glass of the chill stuff and enjoy!
