تدور أحداث الفلم حول فتاة مراهقة تدعى ماري كاثرين (أماندا سيفريد) ، تنتقل بشكل سحري إلى الجانب السري من الكون ، تجد نفسها بطلة دون إنذار مسبق ، وعليها أن تجمع فريقا من الشخصيات الملونة والمرحة من أجل إنقاذ عالمهم الباطني من المجهول المدمر ، وفي الوقت نفسه إنقاذ عالم الإنسان ، ويساعدها رونين (كولن فاريل) من خلال مجموعة من المغامرات الشيقة والمثيرة .
