Publisher's Summary Get ready for an adventure tale in its purest form, a thrilling and elegantly told account of a group of British schoolboys marooned on a tropical island. Alone in a world of uncharted possibilities, devoid of adult supervision or rules, the boys begin to forge their own society, their own rules, their own rituals. With this seemingly romantic premise, and through the seemingly innocent acts of children, Golding exposes the duality of human nature itself: the dark, eternal divide between order and chaos, intellect and instinct, structure and savagery. ©1954 William Golding (P)2002 Random House, Inc.

Overall a good story but would have been a better audio if a professional rather than the author had performed the reading
good story, could be a little longer, narrator seems bored with reading his own book. I usually get excited for books read by their author but he just sounded sick of it
As noted, author not great reader.Doesn't change voices for different characters, so hard to tell who's saying what at times.
I vaguely remember seeing the movie and after hearing the reference in another book, I thought I would give it a listen. I figured that the author would provide insight into the book that other narrators couldn't provide, but I wasn't impressed with him. His voice got old after a while.
I did this book with 6 16-17 year old boys and it was a huge book for them.So worth it to revisit as an adult. Very timely. Creepy, harsh and gritty.Only down side was lots of sexual references which I had forgotten.
Yes it met my expectations! Narrator was excellent! The Death of Piggy was a shocking and not at all expected!
The author performs the book.Of course he's not a professional reader like you'd normally find here, but I always love when a author performs his or her own work.
I enjoyed this book because it made me think about society and it's flaws. Golding's commentary before and after the book gave great insights as well. This book is not for everyone. If you want a book that's going to make you question things and think a little deeper this is definitely one you should try. But if you just want a fun "fluff," kind of story then I wouldn't suggest this book. There are moments where it gets rather dark. However I loved it. And those of you who enjoy to think a little deeper will love it too. I gave it the rating for the simple fact that it kept me involved the whole time and kept my mind working. I really loved it.
Listening to this author read his work is a special treat, adding a wonderful new dimension to this already powerful novel. I read this novel as a 7th grader and am now enjoying experiencing it with my 7th grade son during our daily commute. I wish I'd had the opportunity to hear Golding read his novel before I read it. Truly a magnificent and insightful work.
The narration is amazing. I'm so happy to have listened to this. I love it.
