I always emphasize that the most important thing in a fight is defence. No matter how hard you can kick, it would be useless if you cannot protect your chin from punch or kick counterattacks because of sloppy defence. To help Kaito develop the habit of tucking his chin in when kicking, I make him pin a leaf in between his chin and chest, and do 20 consecutive roundhouse kicks on each leg. Every time he drops the leaf, he has to repeat the full set of 20 kicks again. You can also use a dollar bill (for added motivated NOT to drop it?) as Sean of Muay Thai Guy did in one of his drills videos, or a tennis ball for easier grip. It is definitely more challenging than it seems, and may feel very awkward at first. But it can only get easier. With a strong defence, you will get rocked less often, gain more confidence, and better focus on your attack game plan.
