George Berry’s name is woven into Welsh football history, and is an inspiration to many. In this episode of The Dragon on My Shirt, writer and broadcaster Darren Chetty explores the legacy of Berry: a tough-tackling defender who featured for Stoke City, a League Cup winner with Wolves, and a Wales international who earned five caps between 1979 and 1983. Born in Germany to a Jamaican father and Welsh mother, Berry grew up in Mountain Ash and went on to represent Cymru at the highest level. He speaks about the conversations that led to pulling on the Wales shirt, the immediate acceptance he felt from teammates, and the realities of playing through the racism of the 1970s and 80s. We revisit Berry’s iconic photo, an image that symbolised pride, visibility, and style, from his trademark afro to the legendary Admiral Wales kit. The Dragon on My Shirt is a documentary series exploring the stories of Black and Asian heritage footballers who have represented Cymru, and the ongoing work to make football in Wales more inclusive. ► Subscribe: https://www.youtube.com//FAWales?sub_... ► X: / fawales ► X: / cymru ► Facebook: / fawales ► Instagram: / cymru ► TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/cymru Web: www.faw.cymru #Cymru #Wales #Football #Soccer
