The Arena's Boxing Coach Joe Vargas breaks down a simple but effective footwork drill using two wraps laid across the ring to form 4 quadrants. Working in a single quadrant, the fighter backs up along the wrap as the coach applies pressure — and the moment he feels the crossing wrap hit the back of his legs, he pivots out and unloads a combo. This boxing footwork drill trains you to stop walking straight back. Backing up in a straight line gives your opponent momentum, kills your offense, and looks terrible to the judges. Instead — create distance with a couple controlled steps, feel your boundary, pivot to find your angle, and throw. Once the fighter gets the feel with the guide wraps down, Coach Joe pulls them up and runs it again — clean, no guides, just instinct.
