David Cairns, trained by respected Australian coach Les Anyos, came in with crisp technique, smart structure and the trademark discipline Anyos was known for developing in his fighters. Across the ring stood Nick “Bad to the Bone” Stone, newly arrived from England and cornered by legendary Australian trainer Dave Hedgecock, bringing UK aggression and European/Thai-influenced kickboxing into the Australian ring. The result? A tough, clean, old-school striking war that defined 90s kickboxing. Cairns’ pressure, timing and conditioning ultimately secured him the Australian Championship. ⚡ Short Bio – Nick “Bad to the Bone” Stone Nick Stone was a tough British-born kickboxer who trained in London under Master Bunriaing and later at Paul Taylor’s Thai Boxing Club in Watford. He fought across the UK and Europe before spending time training and competing in Thailand at the famous Sityodtong Gym. Stone moved to Australia in the late ’80s, training under Dave Hedgecock and winning multiple titles, including the Victorian, South Coast and Australian Professional Thai Boxing titles. He later founded Bulldog Gym, which grew into one of Australia’s most respected Muay Thai and kickboxing academies, producing many champions.
