🥊 FIGHT DESCRIPTION: The 21-year-old Stevenson was simply too quick for Diaz on Saturday night. The young southpaw’s speed and ring IQ allowed him to dissect the gritty and determined Diaz over the course of their 10-round featherweight bout on the undercard of the Crawford–Khan event at Madison Square Garden. Stevenson (11-0, 6 KOs), a 2016 Olympic silver medalist from Newark, New Jersey, earned a clear unanimous decision, sweeping all three judges’ scorecards. Julie Lederman scored it 100–90, Kevin Morgan had it 99–91, and Joe Pasquale saw it 98–92. Diaz, 24, from Barranquitas, Puerto Rico, dropped to 24-2 (16 KOs) and suffered his second wide decision loss in three fights. On July 28 of the previous year, Masayuki Ito knocked him down in the fourth round and went on to claim the vacant WBO junior lightweight title. Following that defeat, Diaz changed trainers, leaving Raul Rivas to work with Freddie Roach, who had confidently predicted Diaz would defeat Stevenson.
