Publisher's Summary To make the journey into The Power of Now you need to leave your analytical mind and its false created self, the ego, behind. Access to the Now is everywhere - in the body, the silence, and the space all around you. These are the keys to enter a state of inner peace. They can be used to bring you into the Now, the present moment, where problems do not exist. It is here you find your joy and are able to embrace your true self. It is here you discover that you are already complete and perfect. Although the journey is challenging, Eckhart Tolle offers simple language in a question and answer format. The words themselves are the signposts to guide you on your journey. There are new discoveries to be made along the way: you are not your mind, you can find your way out of psychological pain, authentic human power is found by surrendering to the Now. When you become fully present and accepting of what is, you open yourself to the transforming experience of The Power of Now. ©2000 New World Library

After each chapter, chimes ring in and a lady announces the new chapter, and a misc. guy (Mark Allen the US pub) reads in between Tolle speaking, I find this very unnecessary and distracting, and a bit cheesy. The chimes are ear piercing, especially if using ear buds. The audio quality is poor as if Tolle is speaking through a tin can. Penguin issued the audiobook for "A New Earth" which was so much more professionally done and had excellent audio.
Forget about the content of this Audio Book, you wont be able to get passed the terrible naration. It is like a mix between an Indian Guru and a Drunk person trying to imitate Gold Memger from Austin Powers. With a intolerable bell chime between each chapter this is one book that I found to lame to get through.
The content of the author's message was frighteningly insightful.I recommend this to anyone who suffers from anxiety, depression, and/or stress. It offers new ways to look at old habits and demonstrates the pathways toward a more contented life. My only complaint is the ear-piercing chimings in between chapters. The editor should not have gotten away with that!!!
I'm very surprised to read about the reviewer who felt the chimes were irritating; I suspect he/she had a really lousey sound system, unfortunately.I listened to this book on an inexpensive CD player, and found the chimes to be a wonderful enhancement (not that this book needed chime-enhancement). Chimes or no chimes, THE POWER OF NOW IS AN EXCEPTIONAL BOOK!! Listening to the author read it is even better and very highly recommended.I whole-heartily encourage all my fellow earth dwellers to listen and enjoy!NOW!!
Don't throw your money away. The book's impossible to listen to thanks to the horrible author who is also a lousy narrator. In the introduction he doesn't mind telling us how he came to the realization of his "philosophy": he was deeply depressed and close to suicide when he decided to break with everything, even with himself, to come out of it(!). If you don't want to have serious problems don't "help" yourself with his advice. It's unbeleivable how this book made it so far. Thanks.
Same thing over and over.Did not do much for me.
I had time, credits, and the motivation to pursue this phenomenally successful book. Unfortunately, the result was that I was simply bored. Bored by the author as the reader, and bored by the trite pseudo psycho/philosophical/metaphysical tripe that was offered. I felt as if it were 2 a.m. and I was suffering through a real estate based get-rich-quick infomercial. I was asked to launch into an ill-conceived new worldview on the basis of faith in the author. But nothing about him engendered faith in his "I had a miracle so I hold the answers to the eternal questions that no one else alive has ever been able to figure out" routine. The author struck me as a sort of Brigham Young without tablets.I felt rather sad actually, I had hoped that there was more to benefit from such a successful literary endeavour. Oh well, I'll keep looking.
This seems almost like I listened in "random" mode.It does not flow. The ideas sometimes are clear, but they present little progression.Disappointing after listening and reading _A New Earth__. Sandy
This was the worst mistake I ever made. What a pile of mystical caca. The whiney voice of the author didn't help any, either. Save your money or burn it, either way you'll get better value than if you buy this vapid piece of ditritis
To it's defense I must say I didn't finish it - but that said I can say I don't quit many books. The author (who also reads parts) is a previously depressed guy who one day hux-flux found enlightenment and then found his call to teach it. That's all good - but this guy is almost totally void of humility and is not teaching as much as tutoring. Early on he flips the secret of God, we have misused the phrase but he knows what it really is! On top of that he speaks with a voice someone would use if he wanted to portray a stereotypical Asian wise man on Saturday Night Live. Keep browsing past this one, there are a lot of better books on similar enough subjects. I want my credit back!
