Erling Haaland had our best chance of the first half, seeing his right-footed strike saved by Robin Roefs. Savinho came even closer a few minutes after the break, clearing the bar from a few yards out after latching on to a low Rayan Cherki cross. Substitute Josko Gvardiol was then at the heart of things, coming close twice. His first effort was a glancing header saved by Roefs before a hooked effort from 12 yards out clipped the outside of the post. Sunderland had opportunities of their own, but Gianluigi Donnarumma and a determined City defence held firm.
