Played between 9 January and 19 January 1999, the series featured memorable performances from some of the era’s biggest stars. India was led by Mohammad Azharuddin, while Stephen Fleming captained New Zealand. The series saw Rahul Dravid dominate with the bat, finishing as the highest run-scorer with 309 runs, including a magnificent 123 in the first ODI at Taupō. New Zealand’s star performer was Chris Cairns, who scored 226 runs and took 6 wickets, highlighted by a brilliant 115 off 80 balls in the final ODI at Christchurch, which at the time was the fastest ODI century by a New Zealand batsman. The series also featured key performances from Javagal Srinath, who led the bowling charts for India with 9 wickets, while players like Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, and Matt Horne contributed important moments during the contest. One of the most unusual moments came in the Napier ODI, where eight batsmen were run out, the most in a single ODI match.
