The first minute neither competitor looked to have a clear gripping strategy so they both settled for sub-par grips. It may seem boring but if you want success in gi jiujitsu you must understand and be able to implement a griping strategy. You must understand which grips are more to be desired and which ones work for your body type and game. Dominating a grip battle can put you far down the road to victory. Green is probably new to competing. Everyone needs a reliable mount escape. You must be able to go into your preferred escape at will. Props to Red for checking the clock and still looking for the submission even though she was winning. There was a high chance of getting that armbar she had when the bell rung.
