This is AJ Styles’ forgotten feud on Rusev Day. In March 2018, Styles faced Rusev in a non-title match. Styles caught Rusev with the Calf Crusher and Aiden English attacked him, ending in a DQ. English was beating him down, Rusev joined the fight, Shinsuke Nakamura appeared and saved him from them. A week later, Shinsuke was getting assaulted, Styles teased a save but he fought them off alone. A month later, Styles called out Shinsuke. English and Rusev interrupted. They were assaulting Styles, Daniel Bryan appeared and saved him from them. Then Paige announced a tag team match, which happened in the main event. Shinsuke attacked Styles and Big Cass attacked Bryan, ending in a no contest. A week later, Styles, Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows faced English, Rusev and Shinsuke, where Shinsuke hit Gallows with the Kinshasa to win the match. Two months later, Paige announced a five-man gauntlet match for a chance at Styles’ WWE title. Big E faced Daniel Bryan. Bryan hit Big E with the running knee to advance. Samoa Joe was next.
