India claimed a 17-run win over South Africa in a nail-biting first ODI in Ranchi. Virat Kohli starred with a superb 52nd ODI century, while Rohit Sharma and stand-in captain KL Rahul added valuable fifties to take India to a strong total of 349/8 in 50 overs. South Africa collapsed early to 11/3 after Harshit Rana struck twice in one over. But Matthew Breetzke (72), Marco Jansen (70), and Corbin Bosch (67) kept the chase alive and pushed the match deep. Kuldeep Yadav turned the game India’s way with four important wickets, removing both Jansen and Breetzke in the same over.
