Publisher's Summary On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when - or if - it will go away. Dale Barbara, Iraq vet and now a short-order cook, finds himself teamed with a few intrepid citizens - town newspaper owner Julia Shumway, a physician's assistant at the hospital, a select-woman, and three brave kids. Against them stands Big Jim Rennie, a politician who will stop at nothing - even murder - to hold the reins of power, and his son, who is keeping a horrible secret in a dark pantry. But their main adversary is the Dome itself. Because time isn't just short. It's running out. ©2009 Stephen King (P)2009 Simon & Schuster

The premise of the story sounds great but not too far into the story it is apparent that this is a waste of time.I should have took to heart the reviews I read on Amazon.com.Too bad this is my first Stephen King novel too.
What a disappointment. I heard the first 7 hours (the book is 5 parts and each one is about 7hrs) and I was hoping to be engaged by the book by it, I was not, I skipped to the 3rd part to see if it got any better, it did not. The characters are not deep, the situations are boring, everything is just bad. The plot and the idea is intriguing but badly executed. Don't waste your money on this book, it's not even worth a credit.
Would you try another book from Stephen King and/or Raul Esparza?Yes of course. I love Stephen KingWhat could Stephen King have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you? It was far too long, and some of the subplots didn't feel meaningful. The book lacked the compelling characters, surprising and thrilling plot, and overall enjoyment of his other books.Would you listen to another book narrated by Raul Esparza?Yes, the performance was perfectly fine. You didn’t love this book...but did it have any redeeming qualities? It's still very interesting to read about all these people living under the dome, but the plot just didn't do it for me. Any additional comments?Skip this book and read one of King's better books.
