Publisher's Summary Trapped between worlds. Potentia might be the way out. Time to kill Something. Luke is an apprentice leather worker, training with his family to one day take over the business. He and his friends Andre, Taylor, and Zed have known each other forever, and swear that nothing will ever tear apart their friendship. Then the Royal Decree comes. With the Dynasty of Dogs invading, and strange monsters appearing in the Hollow Kingdom, a draft has been implemented. Everyone 17 or older is required to be tested for "Potential". If they have it, they will join the mysterious and renowned Ascender Corps. If not, they will be drafted into the Legion as a forced recruit. Three of the friends test as powerful, or dangerous, classes of Ascender. Luke is found to have Potential, barely, but when he steps through the portal to begin his training…he is pulled to a plane that shouldn't exist. With no class trainer, the possibility of survival is low. Luke decides that he wants to live, and keeping his humanity isn't going to help. His best chance is going Full Murderhobo. ©2020 Dakota Krout (P)2020 Mountaindale Press

finally someone went in a new direction with a litrpg book. I highly recommend this book.

I had high expectations going into this book, and yet they were somehow exceeded! I consider Completions Chronicles among the very best litRPGs published, and now Something has joined that list. If you are in the mood for an entertaining, funny, and highly enjoyable experience, give this book a read!As for the narration, I think Christian Gilliand may have delivered the best performance possible for this book. I believe this is his first narration, and I am eagerly awaiting more! He has an impressive range, entertaining delivery, and he's absolutely unafraid to embrace Dakota's silliness with aplomb.Just fantastic!

This birthday ok was definitely Something and if the goats don’t get you the bloopers will.It may be Cal adjacent but it has everything Dakota Krout is known for and Something else.I enjoyed the new narrator though I love the narrator of old too.I do suggest you pick this up today and get ready for Anything soon.

I absolutely love all of Dakota's books and can't get enough. He is my favorite author and have listened to all of his books many times, but this book felt like a bit of a disappointment.I realize there is a lot of world building happening in this book, but I felt like most of the characters were flat and cookie cutter. Luke is the only character I liked. I enjoyed learning about the magic systems for the other characters, but the characters themselves had no depth. The first 8-9 hours felt like a crazy long intro (other than Luke's part) and the last few hours are when it feels like the story really starts. I found myself tuning this book out while listening and repeatedly had to go back to see if I missed anything.I have high hopes that now that the foundation is set that this series will pickup. I think it's hard to have this many perspectives to try and develop in so short a book (I'm thinking The Way of Kings as a comparison with it's 45 hours).

I went 2 stars across the board and that may be generous. I plan to return this...unfinished. The thing is I'm not sure if the narration made the story worse or if it was all just plain bad. I got this when i saw some good reviews. Well I'm glad someone liked it. It nearly made my ears bleed. No, just no.

I can appreciate an author trying a new tack, a new world, a fresh start. I came into this book as a DM of a table of 6 and these motherf****ers had a pretty good kill count because their apparent goal in life is to derail everything I create. I had a chip on my shoulder walking in and I freely admit it. Yet I found myself laughing and cackling and wholeheartedly enjoying the bloodshed and insanity, but also flinching and shrinking away as the untenable reality hit some of the characters. It was a fantastic read and a wonderful plunge into the world of whimsy.

Loved this story, one of the best Litrpg stories I've read in a long time
