Georgia Archives Match of the Week #2 Hunter Gamble of Union Grove vs Billy Meek of Pope 160lbs 4A GHSA State Finals 2012 Hunter Gamble had previously finished with two Runner-Up finishes at the State Tournament, but finally exercised his demons in the Finals his Senior Year. It wasn’t easy as he had to win two triple OT matches in order to win a title. He would go on to be a 2x NCAA Qualifier for Gardner-Webb and is currently an Assistant Coach at UTC. Billy Meek had finished third as a Freshman and would finish as a Runner-Up this year in an all-out war. The next season he would go on to win a State Title of his own. Sadly, Billy Meek would come to pass away after severe injuries he suffered in a longboarding accident 4 years later at only 21 years old. He should be remembered fondly in the wrestling community, especially for this incredible all-time great State Finals match that wouldn’t finish until the final whistle in triple overtime.
