This is my favorite Turkish film, the plot resonates my personal experiences in multiple levels. I first watched it manybtears after it's original release date of 2008. Ironically, that was the year of my similar experience (my self-destructive abrupt break-up with a happy-go-lucky girl) that coincidentally took place around the same locations of the film (Pera and Beyoglu of Istanbul). Being a solitary man as the protagonist of the film, more or less I can identify with his feelings, especially in the final scene of the accidental reunion with his unforgotten love. It is tragic that some people win the lottery in love and don't care to collect, letting life surpass them and then only living in a dream world where they have fixed their misgivings. That pretty much sums it up for me.
This is an excellent film with amazing dialogues & perfectly directed. One of the most beautiful & emotional films ever made. Acting is great as well. It really touches you. It's one of a kind. I really can't compare this film with any other.
When I first watched the movie for about 3 days I felt its influence... Maybe the reason for that is during the movie I felt very close to both characters... Alper the deserted man who cannot even stand much long to his mother, cannot sleep when someone else is sleeping near him and gets really nervous when his girlfriend knows every inch of his belongings at home... Even from the beginning Ada knew what was upon in their relationship and how shall it gonna end... Although she hesitated, she chose to be with Alper... After the first night they spent at her house, her jump from bed looking scared, her jokes about marriage, and her experiences from previous relations... these are the facts of today's modern life... the speech between the couple was very simple and realistic... The last 10 minutes were really devastating..
This movie is in my opionion a master piece, because every time it makes me so emotional. Alper is an example of men, which are growing up without a father. His sex with prostitues, destroys his vision of women. So he has problems with binding. In real life, this kind of men, will have affairs and will stay married. But Alper's autistic behaviour, cold blooded, gives him the power to end a relationship, even when there are no problems. The movie speaks to many men which ended relationships for no or bad reason.
I love this movie so much .... A piece of reality , I have seen those relationships, they exist , it can be very painful.... Wonderful story telling and acting combined with great use of light and pictures. A must watch ...Loved it so much .
I had some expectations about this hyped (overhyped?) movie. The first 15 minutes of the movie is basically the man is stalking and harassing the woman. He literally stalks the woman to her shop and gives her his phone number by manipulating her. How did they approve this part of the story, I do not know. Rest of the movie is like a teenager romance, so much so I cringed at some scenes. The acting of main male and main female are sub-par. Only good acting comes from the mother (Yildiz Kultur) but she is a supporting character so that she does not save the movie. They basically tried to imitate cheap Spanish or French romance movies but they failed at that. People said that this is a romantic movie with tears-like-waterfall ending, but my wife and I were just watching the movie with a straight face. I do not know why this movie was hyped.
One of the best romantic movies till now. You may want to watch it again.
From the very first scene, the film whispers to you that it will be a brave production. If this movie had tried to be released in Turkey in 2022, even I couldn't have predicted what would happen. The movie surprised me from time to time, it was nice that the events that were instantaneously opposed to the flow of the script developed. But in the end, I could not quite understand whether what the girl said was true or false. It would have been better if the ending was more understandable, but they may have left it to the audience. I understood the message the movie wanted to give, they can be sure that I will pay attention to it :D Lastly, the movie had enough to make Recep Ivedik cry, but it failed to impress me.
it is a love story. and a solitude story. it is portrait of contemporary profound crisis of person self definition. and it is a delicate construction of need of the other. but, more important, it is a deeply Turkish film. the music, the atmosphere, the silences, the emotions. and this mark gives to it universal value. it can be sentimental, a romance like many other, slice of a flavor with soap opera nuances but each of that verdicts is far to be realistic. it represents only a mute cry. a mirror more than an artistic movie. and the performance of Cemal Hunai is inspired tool for present the hole of an existence full of shadows, insecure, almost empty.a special note for Yidilz Cultur who reminds in a precise manner the essence of traditional way to define life. honest, touching, gray. a beautiful movie.
