This is AJ Styles’ forgotten feud on Rusev Day. In March 2018, Styles faced Rusev in a non-title match. Styles caught Rusev with the Calf Crusher and Aiden English attacked him, ending in a DQ. English was beating him down, Rusev joined the fight, Shinsuke Nakamura appeared and saved him from them. A week later, Shinsuke was getting assaulted, Styles teased a save but he fought them off alone. A month later, Styles called out Shinsuke. English and Rusev interrupted. Styles said since Shinsuke didn’t appear, he will fight Rusev. Ten seconds into the match, Styles caught Rusev with the Calf Crusher and English attacked him, ending in a DQ. They were assaulting Styles, Daniel Bryan appeared and saved him from them. Then Paige announced a tag team match, which happened in the main event. Shinsuke attacked Styles and Big Cass attacked Bryan, ending in a no contest. A week later, Styles, Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows faced English, Rusev and Shinsuke, where Shinsuke hit Gallows with the Kinshasa to win the match. Two months later, Paige announced a five-man gauntlet match for a chance at Styles’ WWE title. Big E faced Daniel Bryan. Bryan hit Big E with the running knee to advance. Samoa Joe was next. Joe caught Bryan with the Coquina Clutch outside, the ref was counting, Bryan fought back, got inside the ring and Joe got counted out. The Bludgeon Brothers appeared and they took out Bryan. The Miz was next and hit him with the Skull Crushing Finale to advance. Rusev was last. Rusev tapped out Miz to win the match. Styles put the title in front of him, they stood face to face and they also shook hands. English extended his hand, pulled it away and was playing games. Then AJ punched him. A week later, Rusev faced Xavier Woods, where Rusev tapped him out. Rusev said it wasn’t about Xavier, it was about Styles. He knows Styles is scared because punching English is the proof.
