MIT.nano required the excavation of a 200,000 sq ft hole in the heart of campus. How'd that get accomplished? 1,000 yards of sand were trucked out daily.
An enormous steel structure is rising—piece by piece, and bolt by bolt—out of a giant hole in the middle of campus. MIT's future home for cutting-edge nanoscience and nanotechnology research is getting fitted with 23 tons of steel per day for a total of 2,101 tons.
