Young athletes on the volleyball court need holistic development (i.e., mind, body, craft) to optimize performance and well-being on and off the court. Heather Elliott, former Seasonal Athletic Trainer for U.S. Beach National Teams, guides coaches and parents through the developmental challenges athletes may face in the transition from high school to collegiate play and how to best support athletes during this time. Elliott focuses special attention on mental wellness, exploring the athlete’s identity and the importance of relationships. 00:00 Introduction – Holistic Care for the Whole Athlete 00:24 Transition to College – Physical, Mental & Emotional Changes 02:17 Recognizing Athletic Identity & Mental Health Challenges 04:26 Managing Expectations, Stress & New Independence 06:22 Defining the Holistic Approach – Developing the Whole Person 08:59 Athletic Identity vs. Human Identity – Finding Balance 12:38 Building Positive Team Culture & Core Values 17:06 Relationships & Trust – The Foundation of Coaching Impact 23:26 Recruiting, Parent Roles & Communication Boundaries 33:03 Coach Wellness, Support Systems & Final Takeaways #Volleyball #AthleteWellness #HolisticCoaching #MentalHealthInSports #AthleteDevelopment
