The key point for me about good, effective punch combinations is that you are not greedy when building them. This means that you should not look to build 8 punch combinations, you should seek to build 4 x 2 punch combinations. These punch combinations should be connected with any of a range of other boxing skills. So, don’t think of them as punch combinations, think of them as boxing skills combinations. Consider the connecting skills between the punches as being part of the punch combination. It might be 2 punches - duck - 2 punches - side step - 2 punches. This is 3 distinct punch combinations dealing with the risk of shots coming back by incorporating defence skills. It’s also worth developing such combinations that use dynamic punching. This means that your punches are not all the same speed and power - mix it up in order to create diversions so that there is a greater chance of your punch combinations being as effective as possible.
