A series of mystical ritual murders occur in a small town. The investigation reaches a dead end, and the locals say that a mermaid, about whom there are many legends, is to blame. A specialist in serial killers, Yuriy Bakhtin, is sent from Moscow to help the investigation. He does not believe in mermaids, but the more he immerses himself in the work, the more he begins to doubt the correctness of his views. In addition to the investigation, Bakhtin also has to solve family problems. It turns out that he lived in this city many years ago, and not only did he have old friends there, but also his ex-wife. During the investigation, the list of suspects only increases, including people close to Bakhtin. Maneuvering between the law, family problems, and obstacles from the antagonist, Bakhtin gets on the trail of the killer.
