I don’t feel like watching it again so correct me. These guys were evenly matched and canceled each other out. Bottom guy was going for more stuff. That standing exchange at first can be energy intensive and hard on the body as you get older. The standing guy's posture determines who feels this most the disadvantaged side uses a ton of energy here and has some risk of injury. If you are young do what you like but be mindful of injuries that will haunt you later. If you are older and wiser find techniques that don’t require as much energy and awkward skeletal positions.
