It represents the top prize in WWE and has been held by some of the biggest names in the history of the industry. Legends like Hulk Hogan, Stone Cold Steve Austin, John Cena and Randy Orton built entire careers around multiple championship reigns. But not every champion gets the chance to win the title again. In this video, we take a look at WWE Champions who only won the title once. These superstars reached the very top of WWE, captured the company’s most prestigious championship, and for one reason or another never held it again. Some of these wrestlers had memorable, career-defining moments. For example, Eddie Guerrero famously defeated Brock Lesnar at No Way Out 2004 in one of the most emotional championship victories in WWE history. Guerrero’s reign remains iconic, but it would also be the only time he held the WWE Championship. Others had short or transitional reigns. The Iron Sheik, for instance, defeated Bob Backlund for the WWF Championship in 1983, only to lose it weeks later to Hulk Hogan at Madison Square Garden, helping launch the Hulkamania era. Despite being a huge historical figure in WWE, Sheik’s reign would be his only time as WWF Champion. Whether it was due to timing, booking decisions, injuries, or changing eras, each of these champions has a unique story behind their one and only WWE Championship victory.
