This is when Sami Zayn refused to quit against Braun Strowman. In October 2016, Braun said he needs better competition. Sami came out, he stood face to face with him and Braun launched him out of the ring. Sami said he stepped up because nobody else will. A week later, Braun had to face Sami. Braun ignored him, telling Mick Foley he needs real competition. Sami punched him and then slapped him. Braun ran after him, Sami got inside the ring, dropkicked him, went for a jump, Braun caught him and threw him into the barricade. A week later, they were in a battle royal, where Braun eliminated Sami to win the match and to put the feud on hold. At Survivor Series, Sami faced The Miz for the Intercontinental Title, where Sami failed to win it. Next day on Raw, Foley told Sami he didn’t bring the title to Raw and he needs to be punished by facing Braun. Braun completely destroyed Sami and Foley came out to stop the match. Next week, Braun beat R-Truth. He went after Goldust, Sami came out for the save and Braun shut him down fast. Foley said he needs to protect Sami from himself. Sami said he doesn’t need that. Foley said he promised he’ll bring the title to Raw and he didn’t. Stephanie wanted him fired and Foley had to punish him, but he was destroyed instead, saying he won’t beat a monster like Braun. Sami said he was everyone’s hero but right now he’s looking at someone who’s in his way. Two weeks later, Braun called Sami an annoyance, saying Foley is protecting Sami as he should because he wouldn’t last two minutes with him. Sami asked Foley for a match with Braun, who said he can’t. Sami said he doesn’t need to save him, because if someone saved Foley in the past, he wouldn’t be who he is today. Foley said Braun doesn’t want to win matches, he wants to end careers, refusing to give him a match, telling Sami he can’t beat him. Sami said if he doesn’t make the match, he doesn’t want to be on Raw and Foley said he will trade him to Smackdown. Later that night, Foley told Sami he was traded for a talent of an equal value
