The event was headlined by the WCW World War 3 battle royal where 60 superstars (WCW and nWo) competed in a 3 ring battle royal, the winner of the World War 3 match would then receive a WCW Championship match at SuperBrawl VIII in 1998. With the company looking ahead to the big Starrcade 97 show and the Sting vs Hollywood Hogan main event, the World War 3 match felt more like an afterthought. nWo guys Buff Bagwell, Scott Hall, Randy Savage, Curt Hennig and more are trying to secure that title shot in the event that Sting wins at Starrcade, while WCW guys such as DDP, The Giant, and Lex Luger want to earn the title shot to keep the title away from the nWo at all costs.
