I enjoyed War Inc, it nicely satirizes the long held US policy of 'freedomizing' countries with aerial bombardment, the more recent privatisation of war and gutless reporting by the media. My problem was that while watching it my thoughts kept drifting off to a much better film, and a more ruthless portrayal of the capitalization of war with Catch 22's M&M Enterprises..."What's good for M&M enterprises is good for the country" If you've not seen Catch 22 perhaps you should spend you time on that film first. In fact, with the hawks trying to restart the cold war Dr Strange Love is coming back into relevance as well. YEEEEEHAW! Not to say that War Inc isn't worth a watch, just that if you've only room in your life for one film in this category War Inc isn't it.
I wanted to see an action comedy with a satirical twist (as this film was touted) but this one failed me miserably. For me, the plot was a bit confusing to follow and I rapidly lost interest. I feel so sorry for John Cusack, Joan Cusack, Ben Kingsley, Marisa Tomei and Hillary Duff for getting involved with this movie. I'll remain a fan of all of them but only time can heal my feeling over this one. The one thing I can say positively about the film is that Hillary played Yonica's character so well that I didn't even recognize Hillary; it took me a few scenes to realize that it was her. Luckily I rented it for $1 through Red Box; had I paid to see it in on the big screen, I would be really fuming!!
Total crap. Not worth viewing for any reason. An embaressment for all involved I am sure as they thought the director was making a decent parody.
When you see a Gattling-gunship mow down a pocket of a hundred or so civilians, like a weedwhacker thru the dandelions, who have the audacity to get trapped between fighting forces, you'll know what I mean. So in order to watch this movie with the right frame of mind, you need to focus on the folly and insanity of human behavior that leads to such gruesome consequences. And in realm of lampooning the principals behind America's psychotic foreign policy, the writers and director are unexcelled. They capture just the right balance between fiction and reality, such as the former vice president and Tamerlane chairman (Dan Aykroyd) telling Hauser to stop agonizing about his job and get with the goals and objectives: ... This is one of the worst films I have ever seen. Despite a very impressive cast, this film fails to deliver. With a plot so predictable and acting well below average, I wonder how this was approved for a release by the production company. There has been an attempt to make the audience laugh. But unfortunately laughter cannot be forced. Only pain can be forced and watching this was a painful experience. I felt many of the actors were not at all interested in acting in this film. But I do not think better acting would have improved the film to a large extent because it was that bad. I do not like to give poor ratings. But I think doing so with this one would be sheer injustice to the good ones out there. I figured out the entire story of the film within minutes of its beginning and was raring to stop watching it. Verdict : Don't even think about watching it!
Professional hit-man Brand Hauser (John Cusack) is sent by the Vice President (Dan Aykroyd) to the small nation of Turaquistan to assassinate Omar Sharif. While there, his undercover identity is to serve as organizing a high-profile wedding of the Middle Eastern singer Yonica Babyyeah (Hilary Duff). Things go wrong when liberal journalist Natalie Hegalhuzen (Marisa Tomei) tries to investigate the real reason why Hauser is there. What results is an action-packed (and hilarious) movie filled with intrigue, twists, and laughter. Cusack once again proves that he can handle being a hit-man. This movie is filled with action, as well as comedy, and we have all now witnessed the evolution of Hilary Duff from a clean-cut Disney cardboard cutout to a cursing, sexual actress in "War, Inc."
This satire was not critical of the Army, but the replacement of the Army with a company who is not accountable or even legally liable for the horrors brought to the third world. As a member of the US military I have no qualms with Cusack lambasting Academi (Formally and more famously known as Blackwater Security). The violence that some disagree with is most likely a response to; "The Iraqi Government revoked Blackwater's license to operate in Iraq on September 17, 2007 after an incident involving a shootout that took place in Nisour Square which caused the death of seventeen Iraqis." So lets just try to give the movie another chance by assuming that Tamerlane=Blackwater.
This film was one of the best movie i have seen for a while... Action, Comedy, Suspense and Surprises... this movie have all. The Cusack brothers were in the movie perfect, John making the whole action but Joan made this movie really funny. Tomei worked really good in this one, John, Hilary and Marisa make the best team i have ever seen... There was a chemical around they... Hilary Duff won the whole attention in this movie, she grown up and acts better than another of her movies (im a fan, i cant deny it), she really surprised me... My final words are: WATCH THIS MOVIE, IT WORTH IT! If this movie its not in your country, what are you waiting for, watch it online...
I LOVE John Cusack, so naturally I would want to see this movie. I got three times better than what I expected. It was funny, it was smart, it was informative, it was satire for intelligent people. Some of the gags are hysterical when put into context with the current war in Iraq. It was a fun ride! The best part of the movie was how great the actors were. Of course John was fantastic in his role as assassin (any time John Cusack picks up a gun to shoot someone, I'll be there!). Seeing Joan Cusack doing her best wise-cracking was a plus. Marisa Tomei was fantastic. The sets were so perfect and the props with their blatant product placement made it that much funnier. The whole tone of the "paid military" characters was hysterical. This is definitely going to be a purchase for my home DVD collection.
