I thought this movie was good, although I will admit it had a couple of really stupid parts. However, I still enjoyed it and if you discard the couple of stupid scenes, it is a pretty entertaining movie. Charlize Therion is hot, and does a good job as the stressed out mother. I mean she really does a very good acting job in my opinion. Potential caveat: I have liked her in other movies too.
Stuart Townsend in listed as being 29 years old (probably younger when this was shot). He could easily pass for 21. Hence, we are expected to believe that his character has gotten married, had a daughter (who is at least 4), graduated from college AND medical school, been a doctor for at least a couple years, advanced in the field beyond many of his peers, and also had a few extra minutes to invent some new medical products. This is the epitome of poor casting. As for the others, Bacon is wonderful as always, Theron is as radiant as ever as a spunky mother, and Love phones it in as a requisite wacko. The story is pretty standard stuff for a thriller, although there are a few surprises along the way. Recommended for Bacon die-hards, if such a thing exists. Grade: C-
