The story is about school life highlighting mostly about attraction taking place between students at this tender age. There is a boy who likes a girl and approaches her in incognito way. There is guardian to this boy worth mentioning. There is another boy whose interests are all well known by his friends. He is weak at studies. There is a scene where students play game to recognize movie names reminding me of school days. All these together contribute for a joy some ride.
The first half of the film is really beautiful. It instantly teleported me to my own school days. Teen love, stolen glances, mischief with friends, teachers of various temperaments... 10/10 marks for it. I am so disappointed about what they did to the second half of the film. The teen love track evaporates. Yaari dosti friendship disappears. Viewers are given a message that expressing our love is bad and should be severely punished. Shockingly, a creepy communist propaganda is also inserted ! Why??
A love story of a boy named mukund joshi, and his friends. and story of classic old school days, joshi is a talented back-bencher does all the fun with his friends and fell in love with a girl. he and she used to look into each others eyes in classrooms and the story continues. there was no moment in the film where i was bored cinematography was absolutely fantastic and succeed to show old days direction and screenplay was all good all cast was gold and acted very very brilliantly the movie was only 1:42 hours long but i enjoyed them. the ending of movie could have been better love story of lead was so short movie was not promoted very well otherwise it could have been done good business If You Ever Gone To School You Would Love This Film but really sweet 9/10 stars for this classic cinema.
Everyone has done their part perfectly. Amazing story line, acting and direction.
Is this film meant to be just a nostalgic journey into the 80's through the eyes of a teenager or is it a commentary on the era? If it is a nostalgic journey, that part is shown very well. The teenage crushes, the school's day to day activities and the teachers. Anyone in his 40's can relate to this. But I think the writers and director wanted to comment on the emergency imposed and the various fallouts of the situation. Probably it is the censor board or the director himself things are not clear. Being a Marathi speaker sometimes things went over my head. The subtitles were also not helpful. Overall a good watch.

SHALA is the worst movie in any language i have seen ever..After watching this movie i wonder how it got so many accolades??There are many movies in Marathi which are far superior than SHALA..It is such a pathetic movie which does not have any base.I did not find any thing appealing.. I feel this movie is for those who have not visited School in their Childhood. The level of the movie is so mediocre. There is no baseline, humor, thrill, morale, inspiration, action, motivation, entertainment involved... When i started watching movie i thought it must be related to problems in education system in India with sarcastic comedy touch.but it turned out to be pathetic school folks' flirting. The central theme of the movie is flirting.. Direction, screen play, story, cinematography, dialogs etc are fully abysmal.all the actors performed below average.Ketaki Mategaonkar did not have role to show her acting skills unlike KAK-SPARSHA.. 90% of the scenes are not logical and are unwanted..i would have loved it if it were 10 minutes short film.. Watch this movie only if you want to waste 2 hours of your life..
This is the first Marathi movie I have watched till date & many more are in the line to be seen in coming days & I must confess how divine & nostalgic was the feeling to relive the days of romance during school days. Said that, I would also emphasize that it would be highly unfair for an individual to accept that he/she hasn't been through this "Journey of Love" during his/her schooling life. Watching the movie makes an adult to realize how immature it was to hop into the journey of love during school days without even considering the responsibilities there next. Probably that is why there's a saying "Love is blind" & can happen anytime. Mind me, I am not referring to "Infatuation" & only talking about true meaning of LOVE which is very pure, divine, beautiful & very blissful, also very difficult express through words. This is a very beautiful movie of love between two school goers Joshi & Shirodkar falling in love who are classmates in the same school in a suburban of Maharastra. Joshi expresses his feeling to his love which in itself is very blissful to watch. His love understands his feeling for her, however she is little reluctant in accepting probably because she realizes the level of Immaturity of getting into love at this age. No wonder that women have very high level of maturity compared to men, however it is also very true if a woman feels deep for someone special, she will go beyond the boundaries to be with her love. Well coming back to the story post Intermission, everything seems fine between the two until Mathare (a close friend of Joshi) tries to propose his Love Kevda who is on the way to her home from School, however his proposal is turned down by the girl & she complains this incident to the Principal of the school. On learning about this, he summons Mathare & Joshi (an accomplish in this incident) in the school & are punished & Also decides to rusticate both from the school. Before taking a final decision, the Principal calls upon the parents of Mathare & Joshi to a meeting, for them to take the necessary step for the best interest of their children. Post this incident, Shirodkar's father girl gets posting somewhere else & hence the family moves out of the village. This turn of events become known to Joshi immediately after learning his outstanding performance in the exams which is declared during his last visit to the school for that year for the results. Absence of his love in the class & disclosure of the fact that girl's family has moved out of the village by one of her classmate leaves the boy devastated & this is when he realizes "Probably he would never ever meet his first love".
