#AlexPereira put his name on the map after beating Israel Adesanya in all of their three professional fights, twice in kickboxing and once in the UFC. To everyone’s surprise, “Poatan” himself admitted that he too lost to the same guy thrice. According to Pereira, what he has done to Adesanya may sound savage and epic, but the truth is, he was in Izzy’s shoes as well. The reigning middleweight champion said he knocked out all of his 25 opponents during his amateur days but there was one guy who always beat him. Pereira confessed that he couldn’t figure out why it happened over and over again until he finally realized it was because there was no way his style was going to beat the other guy’s style. “I’m going to say something that I’ve never told anyone,” Pereira told Luxurytainment. “I have 28 fights in amateur. I won 25 of them by knockout. I lost three fights. Three times to the same guy. In amateur, three fights. I don’t understand why. But now I do. The styles don’t match. The guy has stopped fighting. If I fought him again today, I think I’d lose again. Even though he’s done fighting, if I fought him, I would lose. If I fought him 10 times, I’ll lose.” No. 2 middleweight contender #RobertWhittaker also lost to Adesanya twice. Depending on how his upcoming bout with Paulo Costa at UFC 284 would play out, “The Reaper” could find himself crossing paths with Izzy for the third time. If he loses again, Whittaker will join Pereira and Adesanya in that rare category. Pereira, Adesanya, and Whittaker should remember that no matter how many times they fight the same guy who beat them, if their style was never meant to win, they would still lose. “Adesanya needs to get that, the same way Whittaker did. He doesn’t accept it,” he concluded. Pereira did not provide any information regarding the fighting style of the person who beat him three times. It is clear, however, that Adesanya is still searching for an answer to Pereira’s lethal striking style. #whittakerpereira
