Physical Evidence

So we agree that 'Physical Evidence' actress Theresa Russell turns in a sub-bar performance acting along side Legendary Burt Reynolds. However any hollywood fan would agree that actress Theresa Russell and actress Kathleen Turner could pass as sisters with Kathleen being the 'sinister one'. So, why is it that on 1988's 'Switching Channels' film with Burt Reynolds, Kathleen Turner, and Christopher Reeve, that Kathleen suffered Put-down and insult from Burt Reynolds to the Point that Superman had to intervene and tell Burn to 'stop it'. If Ms. Turner and Ms. Russell look like mirror images of each other, and Burt go along great with Ms. Russell, then why didnt he get along great with Ms. Turner. Obviously due to Ms. Turners' tough-woman anti-Man stance that she gloriously display in 1989 'War of Roses' film with Michael Douglas....unlike her 'Romancing the Stone' superb acting film appearance. Hence, we all agree that Ms. Turner was a better actress than Ms. Russell.

I was optimistic that "Physical Evidence" would be a good movie as it seemed to be well filmed and put together but after a promising start the script fizzles and by the end leaves the viewer disappointed. There's just not enough meat here in terms of plot and character development to make it an engaging and satisfying viewing experience. My rating 4/10.

Jagged edge was a real bad movie but this is not. Wonderful one-liners and new words like "His Gucciness" referring to your everyday yuppie, played by Mr. Darcy from "Married with Children" (Al Bundy's sidekick). I would have like to give this 10 stars to compensate for all the bad reviews given but that would not have been quite fair. It's still a solid 7 stars and that's not bad (jagged edge could maximally deserve 2 stars). The villain is also well chosen. He's rich and arrogant, like all real villains. In short: a decent movie.

I got a kick out of Reynolds saying to his attorney, "look,I've done a lot of shi%ty thing in my life, but I never killed anyone." Obviously he forgot about his career which slid down hill after he started making stupid movies like 'Cannonball Run.' Physical Evidence was originally supposed to be a sequel to 'The Jagged Edge' that Glen Close sanely rejected. The verdict is in, avoid Physical Evidence.

"Physical Evidence" is a lot better than I remembered it. I saw it in the theater (Movie World, Douglaston, NY) and a few times on tv but I haven't seen it in years. I watched it last night and it is a very easy watch. Burt Reynolds gives a terrific performance in this movie. He spends most of the court scenes in the background and you can't take your eyes off him. And he's not even doing anything. He's a guy on trial, not a movie star (if you know what I mean). Ned Beatty is also gives a terrific performance. "Physical Evidence" may be kind of corny at times but I don't care. It was very entertaining. Honorable mention: whenever Theresa Russell lets her hair down.

I have always liked Burt Reynolds. He did a great job in any role he was in. To me he has always made a very convincing police officer, going back to Dan August. The story is very good. The cast is well rounded. The bonus is you get to see two attractive attractive women, Kay Lenz and Theresa Russell.

"Physical Evidence" has a gripping opening sequence, with a man trying to commit suicide on a bridge, only to find a corpse hidden there. What follows, however, is little different than a TV movie, albeit a well-made and somewhat violent one. Burt Reynolds' character is a walking cliché: he is a burnt-out, suspended cop who "plays by his own rules", has a bad temper, and of course doesn't remember anything about the night he is accused of murdering an old enemy of his. Theresa Russell gives a strangely stiff, buttoned-up performance (except for one cute scene, where she gives Ned Beatty's character the finger). The whodunit aspect is at least sustained until the end, though of course we know all along that Burt is not the killer. There are some funny lines (-"He has a police record longer than my d**k" -"Never been arrested, eh?"), and "Married With Children" fans will have fun spotting Ted McGinley as Russell's rich fiancé, aka "His Gucciness"! ** out of 4.

I picked this one for the Courtroom Drama aspect. It's only okay, though. Thought I had it pegged from the beginning but was wrong and when you get to the ending...you're like, eh. Couldn't be more average.
