Madara's mind drifted back to the era before ninja villages. Back then, the Uchiha and Senju clans existed only to fight. The two clans eventually united and became what is now known as Konohagakure, the Village Hidden in the Leaves. However, the village grew to distrust the Uchiha, and as a result, Madara left. Eventually, Madara declared war on the village and, with the Nine-Tails under his control once more, fought Hashirama, the First Hokage.
