Athletes can often struggle with lagging motivation before, during, and after a volleyball season. Dr. Lauren Walker, Manager of Athlete Development at USA Volleyball, provides athletes with an explanation of different types of motivation and factors that may influence motivation over time. Walker explains the difference between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, how feelings of autonomy, competence, and relatedness impact motivation, and provides athletes with reflective questions to help them evaluate their own motivation.
