Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/haNZAgod Jose Stable - Was a Cuban professional boxer who competed in the Welterweight division during one of its golden eras. Stable stood 5'6 and was a versatile fighter who often preferred to put pressure on his opponents and fight on the inside. For a period in the middle of the 1960's, Stable was a genuine world-class 147-pound contender and was regarded as one of the best young fighters in the division. He beat such notable contenders and future champions such as; Curtis Cokes, Charley Scott, Stanley Hayward, Dick Turner, Vince Shomo, Kenny Lane, Billy Collins and Gabe Terronez before facing Emile Griffith for the world Welterweight championship. Stable's record at this time was an impressive 26-2-1 but after he was defeated in his fight with Griffith by decision, his career went into serious decline and he finished with a record of 27-12-2. The later chapter of Stable's life was deeply troubled. In 1981, he was arrested in Miami after shooting and wounding police officer Robert Diers during an attempted arrest; UPI reported that Stable had previously been wanted in connection with weapons and assault charges. In 1982 he received a life sentence for the shooting. He died on October 4, 2023, at the age of 82.
