Doğan is the surgeon son of Tahir Hancıoğlu and Saadet Hancıoğlu, both merchants in the maritime trade. Doğan has broken away from his Hancıoğlu family and built a life for himself in another city. He has an older brother, Sinan, and two younger sisters, Melek and Gülüşan.
